My Vision of an Art-Friendly World

MY VISION is that all creative people will find success and happiness and that the term “starving artist” will become a faint, distant memory.
I see a world in which it is a great honor to become a professional artist, a fine artist, a writer, a sculptor, commercial artist or a muralist, and that these talents are revered with respect and monetary rewards.
The “starving artist” myth will become a joke of the past, a lie that parents and teachers in the dark ages told to keep children from going into creative professions and led them into more “practical” ones.
I see a reality in which artists create without limitations or barriers, where the new ideas flow forth and are embraced by society.
MY MISSION is to encourage creative people to help further the vision of a creative-friendly world by believing in themselves, their talent and their abilities.
I am dedicated to helping creative professionals by sharing our success stories and the stories of others, with the intention of passing along information that will help further all artists in their careers.
HOW ARTISTS CAN HELP
You can help bring this vision come to life by finding success in the creative world for yourself, and by helping others find success, too.
I encourage all artists to embrace their talents, and treat their art business professionally, by charging a fair amount so that they don’t undercut other artists, by maintaining ethical and moral standards, by meeting deadlines and by respecting the client-artist relationship.
And most of all, artists are encouraged to help fellow artists through sharing information, giving referrals and exchanging pricing data. Buy from each other, promote each other, stay dedicated to furthering the importance and sales of art.
I urge creative people to connect with each other and share information that will be helpful for the art community.
Together, we can change the “Starving Artist” myth to the “Well Fed Artist” reality. And the world will be more creative place because of it!

This post really resonated with me: I felt I just had to leave a comment.
It is almost like you took the words right out of my mouth.
Society conditions us to become doctors, lawyers or engineers. Failing that, we are told to become accountants or MBAs. Sad.
Our world would really be a poorer place without the comedic talent of a Carol Burnette; the golden voice of Frank Sinatra; the athletic skills of Michael Jordan; and the musical grace of Karen Carpenter.
We must always strive to break free of the hypnosis of social and cultural conditioning. Be a rebel, if you have to, but for crying out loud, try to find your own, one, true voice. That’s the road to inspiration.
In this context, you and Drew, thanks to the sort of lives you have pursued (against the norm), are an inspiration to us all. You live far away from the maddening crowds and have learned to follow your bliss. Who could be a better role-model for aspiring artists? Thanks.

Archan, thanks for the insight. Yeah, I’ve always been a rebel – used to drive motorcycles (yes, I did own 2 of my own) and went against the grain. Was attracted to musicians and artists and writers and backpackers, anyone who knew how to really live. It too until I was much older to realize that it was not only okay to be a rebel, but that I should be proud of it! You’ve just sparked a new blog post that I’m going to write – thanks!
