You know how when it’s nearing the end of the year, you start to panic, thinking about all of the things that you didn’t yet do, that you had planned to do?!
Yeah, that’s me right now. (And every November!)
There’s been a lot of distraction this year that I feel has pulled my attention away from my own important plans.
I found that turning off the TV (I did it years ago) and staying away from social media (more recently I’ve been avoiding it) helps me to stay focused on my own stuff.
If you have been distracted, upset, pulled into other people’s problems or complaints, and it’s hurting your own positive growth, please take a moment to ask yourself WHY.
Then ask if it’s USEFUL for you to be distracted and pulled away from your important work (art, writing, painting, music, etc.). The answer always is NO – it’s not useful to stop doing the good stuff to focus on the bad stuff.
And then re-direct your attention back to what you have control over; your own projects, the things that are most important for you to do.
November 1st is upon us. You have 60 days left in 2020. Don’t let anyone hi-jack your own creativity and time anymore. Take control these last 60 days!
This year has been a rough one for many of us, but it doesn’t have to end that way.
If you’ve been overwhelmed, do this: CLEAN UP AND CLEAR OUT all the little things that you want to have complete before January 1st.
FOCUS on what you can do, now, to improve your life in big and little ways.
FINISH those things that you started and got pulled away from.
Unfinished things weigh heavy on us. Things like:
- paintings that are not yet completed
- piles of stuff that needs to be given away or tossed
- phone calls that haven’t been made
- apologies that you should give to someone
This month I’m going to finish all of the things that are left undone, so that I can prepare for 2021 with a CLEAN SLATE.
Why don’t you join me?!
FOR THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER: What are the top 3 things that you GET TO to complete so that you can start the new year with a fresh slate?
Write a list and commit to doing it.
And, if there is something on your “incomplete list” that you decide NOT to do, then remove it from your mind forever. Don’t let it take up real estate in your psyche!
Did this little reminder help you re-focus? If so, please share in the comments. And if you’d like, share your list of 3 things you will focus on for the rest of this interesting, crazy year!
Wishing you all happiness and a light heart, Maria xxoo

Great and timely advice, Maria. I would only add that when you make your list of to-do’s, you need to number them in order of priority—then try to do them in that order. That motivates and helps you focus. Now back to tossing and giving away! Thanks, Maria.
Great to hear from you, Steve! Yes, thank you for that additional wisdom. xxoo
